The Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird Standard takes one of Gibson’s most iconic square-shoulder dreadnoughts and elevates it with a collection of rare, hand-selected appointments that blend vintage tradition with a more contemporary visual identity. Built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this Custom Select version preserves the warm, full-bodied voice and strong midrange presence that have made the Hummingbird a favorite of singer-songwriters for generations. Finished in an eye-catching Cobra Burst, the guitar immediately separates itself from traditional Hummingbird aesthetics, pairing classic Gibson craftsmanship with a darker, more modern personality that feels both refined and distinctive.

The Cobra Burst finish is one of the defining visual features of this Custom Select model, created through a layered staining process that gives the top exceptional depth and character. A hand-applied transparent black stain forms the base before a darker burst is sprayed around the perimeter, producing a smoky, blended appearance that enhances the figuring and grain beneath the gloss finish. Complementing the dramatic finish is the use of striped ebony for both the fingerboard and reverse belly bridge, a rare specification on a traditionally styled Gibson acoustic. Compared to the rosewood typically found on production Hummingbirds, striped ebony offers a sleeker appearance along with a slightly quicker attack and tighter note definition, adding clarity and articulation to the guitar’s naturally rich dreadnought voice.
